I’m Renee (they/them), a filmmaker and writer focused primarily on documentary and non-fiction projects. My work centralises finding place, whether this is within ourselves, our identity and community or in the world and the places we call home.

As a documentary director I place great importance on representation and ethical practice. I prioritise working with a crew that is diverse and representative of the story we’re filming, and any project I work on is created in consultation and collaboration with its participants. I hope to be doing my part to change the once very parasitical practice of documentary film, and shift the authority over story and identity back to the ones it belongs to.

I graduated from St. Joost School of Art and Design in 2023 with the short documentary film Oaia Neagră, which premiered at Nederlands Film Festival. The short won the VPRO Documentary Prize as well as the title for Best Film at Vers Film Festival, and was selected for NPO’s Makers van Morgen. It has since been selected for festivals such as Roze Filmdagen, Rotterdams Open Doek, DocLisboa, and was nominated for best documentary of Shortcutz Amsterdam 2024.

Presently I am developing a short documentary with transgender migrants in The Netherlands. This project is a collaboration with Teledoc Campus, CoBo, and HUMAN.

I am currently one of the eight selected participants for the 2024 NEXT Talent Program by Playgrounds.
